Soaring Like an Eagle in the New YearPastor Donna Wise
2009 was a difficult year for many. Many lost their jobs. Many experienced severe illnesses. Many were filled with fear and discouragement as we watched our economy tumble. One of the prophets said that the Lord told him that 2009 would be a year of plowing. This has been proven true and we can rejoice in this. What comes after the plowing? Seedtime and Harvest! We have much to look forward to in this New Year.
This same prophet also says the Lord told him 2010 would be the year of the eagle. When I heard this, it resonated in my heart that this is important to consider, so I did a little research on the eagle to see what we could learn about the upcoming year. I found 4 traits of the eagle that I think are important for us to consider:
First, the eagle has a very focused and clear vision. The eagle has a vision 4 times that of a human who has perfect vision and can see up to 3 square miles from a height of 1000 feet. As I pondered this, I realized the importance that we have a clear and focused vision in 2010. We must hear from God in this new season and we must receive on an ongoing basis the “now” Word of God to keep us focused on where He is taking us. Proverbs 29:18 says “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint (discipline). If we do not have vision or revelation of where we are going, then we will not discipline ourselves to attain it. If we don’t know where we are going, we will flounder around and end up anywhere instead of the place God has planned for us. God’ vision is our preferred future and we must hear His voice and stay focused on His Word to us in 2010.
Secondly, the eagle does not eat what it does not kill. In other words, the eagle does not feast on old leftovers or the leftovers of another. This is not the year to be feasting on old leftovers. We must leave behind the baggage of 2009 and quit feasting on old wounds and offenses. We must also learn to catch our own Spiritual Provision and not be dependent on someone else’s revelation for our life. Phil 3:13-14 but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus
Third, the eagle will seek after and fly into a storm. The weaker birds will run for cover when they see a storm coming, but not the eagle. The eagle will seek out the storm because it knows it can use the winds of the storm to elevate it higher and higher and allow it to soar over the storm. As the storms come in 2010, we must remember Isaiah 40:31 “But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. It is the storms we come through that prepare us for the next level in God. Psalm 9:9 He is our stronghold in times of trouble
Lastly, the eagle is very caring and gentle toward its young. We must be raising up sons and daughters to promote the will of God in our families and in our nation. Our young must be priority in our lives. We must become Deuteronomy 6 people: “Deuteronomy 6:6-7 6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children” . Every age is one generation from annihilation. Let’s not allow the enemy to snatch up the next generation. Our children are a blessing to us from God. All are valuable and needed in His Kingdom.
MAY YOU HAVE A HAPPY AND BLESSED NEW YEAR!
